24 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
APRIL 2016
There is sure to be a green collection bin quite near you- they are in both the Methodist and St Andrew’s Churches, Countesthorpe College foyer, the Rainbow Shop, Tesco Express and as of Thursday 10th March, the Co-op on Main Street. Each one is emptied regularly and the contents weighed in and stored safely until needed.
So thank you all for your generosity. Everyone who is helped by the Foodbank has been referred from a professional worker who has assessed that they need this support until their crisis has been alleviated. Clients are also helped further by being sign-posted to other organisations who can offer more long-term support and help them get back on their feet again.
If you would like to know more about the Foodbank or are interested in volunteering, please do email countesthorpe@ lutterworthvillages.foodbank.org.uk ,visit the website: www.lutterworthvillages. foodbank.org.uk or call 01455 558797
If you would like to make a donation into one of the Foodbank’s green bins, please do consider the following items which are currently desperately needed:
UHT Milk, Savoury Biscuits, Savoury Jars of Spreads, Jams/Sweet spreads, Hot Chocolate, Squash, Deodorants, Laundry Detergent, Instant Mashed potato, Tinned potatoes, Tinned spaghetti, Nappies Thank you all.
SPRING FAYRE
On Saturday May 14th the Rainbow Shop will be having a Spring Fayre in the Cornerstone Building from 10am to 12 noon, to raise money for Christian Aid. There will be a variety of stalls including a plant stall, jewellery, tombola etc, plus tea, coffee and cakes will be served.
COUNTESTHORPE U3A
U3A in Countesthorpe is an ever growing organisation aimed at those who are retired and looking for interesting and varied ways to spend their time. Outings form a large part of our activities, and there are over 30 Special Interest Groups meeting regularly in homes, halls, a ten pin bowling alley, Garden centres, and not forgetting the model plane group who meet in the sports hall or the ornithologically minded folk who regularly go off to bird hides!
From June on, event details will be published in a monthly news sheet as well as on the website at www. countesthorpeu3a.co.uk and of course we plan to highlight some things each edition of the Herald! Group details and specific news items are featured on screen in the Village Hall before the monthly meetings, so it is easy to keep up to date one way or the other.
One lady contacted to ask about Country Dancing on a Monday afternoon and also mentioned Art which is every Thursday afternoon. On Mondays U3A also offers Bridge, Fit for Life and a Guitar Group every week and less often, the Creative
I read with interest that the Lutterworth & Villages Foodbank in Countesthorpe has collected over1 tonne of food from you supportive Countesthorpe people and donated1.8 tonnes to local people in crisis since it opened in October 2015. Somehow it all seemed unimaginable until it was pointed out that the white vans as seen in our picture carry that amount when fully laden.
The list of ‘donations most needed’ is again headed by long life UHT milk — and thinking about it helped me realise that a huge amount of feeding a family, or indeed oneself, involves milk and quite alotofit,soIboughtapacktogoin the green collection bin in the Rainbow Shop! It is also good to buy something to give that you would enjoy yourself — so toiletries seem appealing to me. As the Foodbank has no cold storage it simply cannot take fresh or frozen goods of any sort.
Writing Group, Cryptic Crosswords, computer advice, Science and Technology discussion, Photography, Country Dancing as already mentioned, and I almost forgot ten pin bowling — surely a wide range of activities to suit all tastes, and just on that one day.
