   HELPPING PEOPLE WHO
DON’T HAVE ENOUGH
My name is Emilia, and I am 6 years old. I go to Beavers Countesthorpe Group and to work towards the Community Impact Project badge, I chose to help people that don’t have enough food. I wanted to help because it makes me feel sad that people are hungry, and they can’t afford to buy food. I learnt about the Food Bank and went to visit. The food bank gives people food and toiletries. I had an idea to help the food bank. I made a poster so people knew that they could decorate a biscuit if they donated food, toiletries, or money. I raised £53 and lots of bags of items that we took to the food bank, and they were very grateful.
Recent evidence has shown that food poverty is rising within the UK. Food banks in the Trussell Trust network distributed the highest number of parcels in a year between April 2022- March 2023. Not only do they provide food parcels, but they also provide additional support to help people break free from poverty. This could include debt advice, mental health support, or benefits guidance. Food banks rely on the support of their local communities and there are lots of ways that you could help. You could make a one-off or regular donation, donate food supplies or goods, fundraise or volunteer. Please visit www.trusselltrust.org to find more information about how you can help, ways to donate and what items to donate.
If you need any support please visit your local food bank, which can be found on the Trussell Trust website, or contact Help through Hardship for free to talk confidentially to a trained Citizens Advice advisor on: 0808 208 2138 (Open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Closed on public holidays).
