played their part. All our friends also have a lively family life with children and grandchildren, who are often invited to our farewell dinners.
We have also always been very active in terms of singing. A German/English songbook was produced to mark the 20th anniversary of our friendship and the most important songs in it - such as ‘Old MacDonald had a farm’ or ‘Am Brunnen vor dem Tore’ - bear witness to this. The most impressive thing was the song ‘Auld Lang Syne’ or ‘Nehmt Abschied Brüder’, which we were always singing in a large circle and during which you could see wet eyes here and there.
BUT: We are all a bit older now and are looking for FOLLOWERS to actively participate in these friendly relationships and encounters between people from Renningen and Countesthorpe.
In our increasingly aggressive and self- centred world, we desperately need friendships and partnerships that transcend our borders.
That is why the town twinning with RENNINGEN is so important.
And that is why we warmly invite you to get involved in Countesthorpe‘s Twinning activities and to join the German-English Circle of Friends.

Ladies and Gentlemen in Countesthorpe, The twinning scheme between
Countesthorpe and Renningen has been in existence since the end of the last century - for more than 25 years.
Every year, a group of around 15 people from one of the two towns has visited the other town - in regular rotation, so that the friends of the German-English partnership have been able to visit the other town every two years. The only
guests the most beautiful and interesting sights of their home country. Together with our visitors from Renningen, we have visited and toured many of them throughout our country, and in Germany our hosts have also introduced us to dozens of their ‘sights’, giving us an impressive overview of their home country.
The most important thing, however, was the many personal conversations in private with the German and English hosts at home. Initial hospitality very

usually travelled by plane, but there was also a trip by car and canal ferry.
