W.I. CHRISTMAS
In the run up to Christmas the WI party can be an evening of respite for many members and 2015 was no exception. During the year membership has grown steadily so the party was a chance to chat to friends new and old, play silly games and, for those who hadn’t had a chance, to see the play ‘what Christine wrote’ for the Group Meeting in October. A big thank you to those who helped to make a fun, relaxing evening for all that went far too quickly.
We hope to make more new friends in 2016 so see you every 2nd Monday of the month at around 7.15 in the Village Hall.
FEBRUARY 2016
EXCELLENT NEWS FOR COMMBUS
Commbus has been successful in being awarded a new bus from a National Government Department of Transport £25m Community Transport 2015/16 Grant scheme. The new vehicle is currently on order and should arrive and be brought into service Spring 2016. Commbus is operated entirely by volunteers and has been successfully providing its services to the elderly and disabled in a number of communities within Blaby District for almost 25 years. The introduction of this third vehicle will hopefully allow Commbus to offer its services to additional communities within the Blaby District Council area as well as broadening its services within the eleven communities that it currently serves. Its prime service is weekday’s dial-a-ride “door to door” services to a variety of local shopping venues. In meeting this
essential need it also enables its users to retain a degree of personal independence, whilst also enjoying the social company of others.
New volunteers are always required; especially so now with the imminent arrival of the third vehicle. We are looking for new drivers, bus escorts, administrators in our Narborough office; also help with our fortnightly Lunch Club and second-hand Book Sales which are held in the Parish Centre, Narborough. Please contact us on 2866116 to discuss how you might become involved with such a worthwhile and valued community service. [Interested in driving? contact Olly Curran 07836 218783].
Finally, we really welcome hearing from potential new customers; if you would like to find out what services are available in your area please ring 2866116 [between 10.00 -12.00 weekdays; at other times leave your name and number and we will call you back]. We will be very pleased to hear from you, whether as a potential volunteer or a new passenger.
Please come and join us in 2016. Best wishes. The COMMBUS team
