Our Christmas Performance
THE LION KING
We did two sold out performances of the Lion King at Birketthouse in Countesthorpe College.
The audience said it was awesome. Students said they loved it. The singing was better than last year. Harry Daulby had a voice with tone of David Bowie! Scarlett Kukk knew all her lines. Casey Brosnebauer was helping Emma Colledge and Sophie Delisle Vasey to remember their dance. Maddie Humphreys and Thomas Bannister did their usual fantastic singing and acting. Jack Harris knew everything again and Muzzy Hussein was a brilliant Zebra. The new performers from Key Stage 4 showed great potential. Casey Brosenbauer
RESPITE
I am a student at Birkett House Seniors. Lots of students at Birkett House go to Respite. Respite is a carer who looks after people.
Pam is my carer. She is very nice and I love her. I go to her house. Pam gives me fish and chips, they are my favourite meal. She sometimes gives me cheese pizza. I sometimes go shopping with Pam in Asda or different shops.
When the day is finished, Mum and Dad pick me up. Pam is my friend. I cannot wait to see her next time!

WORK EXPERIENCE
AT THE VETS
On the 7th of December I went on work experience at Town and Country Veterinary Centre in Market Harborough. I was there for a week.
On the first day of work experience I had to read the vets’ manuals and then I went into the room where the veterinary nurses work. I got shown all of the rooms that they used and then I went in to the three residential rooms; there was a room for the dogs, one for the cats, and an exotic room for rabbits and guinea pigs. I also got introduced to all of the nurses. There were three student veterinary nurses and one newly qualified veterinary nurse.
I watched all sorts of operations. The three that I watched were an ear amputation, a dental operation, and a neutering operation. I also got to feed and groom a stray cat; the nurses named him ‘Fluff Fluff’ and got used to calling him ‘Fluff
Fluff’. On the night he went to a new home I was really happy that he had someone to love and care for him.
On the last day of my work experience I watched more operations. I also went into two consultations, which was quite good. Whenever I had my lunch I went into Costa Coffee to get a hot chocolate.
After my week of work experience I have now decided that when I am older I want to be a Veterinary Nurse. Just last Friday Ihadtogobacktothevet’stogoand collect my water bottle. I asked to see the head nurse and she asked me if I wanted to come into the back to see the animals. There were two dogs and two cats in. I also got to see some of the other nurses and one of the student nurses. I told the head nurse that I want to be a Veterinary
Nurse. by Maddison Humphreys
