HOSPITAL
FOR WILDLIFE
The Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital was founded in 1994, by Mrs Angela Downham after she recognised that there were no facilities in Leicestershire catering for wildlife casualties. All too often animals are left alone to die in pain, so Angela decided that she had to do something to help alleviate their pain and suffering so she began by setting up a rescue centre in her back garden. As the general public, local vets and the RSPCA became aware of her willingness to care for injured animals, casualties began to flood into the Downham’s home.
By 1997 it was obvious that larger facilities were needed and a site was found to re-locate the hospital. In addition a fund was set-up, “The Bricks Appeal” to raise money to purchase land and build a fully equipped Educational Wildlife Hospital. Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital became a registered charity in January 2000.In 2005 the hospital was granted permission to erect a purpose built facility and education centre on Fleckney Road, Kibworth, Leicestershire. Three acres of land were purchased and work was started to construct the fully equipped hospital to deal with any emergency, having full veterinary capabilities and an intensive care unit. All animals are housed according to species and individual needs. Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital is committed to education, and now includes an education area where local schools, volunteers and other interested parties

overwintering hedgehogs that are too small to go into hibernation because they were late babies, and are consuming over 350 cans of meat per week so imagine how many tins of meat that would be over a 5 month period along with the many Kilos of dried meal worms that are also consumed. So in order to help us feed these hungry hedgehogs we are holding a Barn Dance in Countesthorpe Village Hall on Friday 15th April from 7.30pm to 11pm. Tickets cost £11 each to be paid in advance and will include a ploughman’s supper (vegetarian and special diets can be catered for but must be ordered with your tickets) which can be ordered from Ann 2881395 or email aliceann. kemp44@yahoo.co.uk. We will also be doing a raffle on the night.
We also hold regular coffee mornings with table top sales, on the 2nd Saturday of every month in Kibworth Village Hall from 10am to 1pm

The route will snake through the city centre, through Jubilee Square, past the High Cross Shopping Centre, Town Hall and Victoria Park.
“Why not come along and support LOROS yourself, by sparing a few hours and lending a hand on the evening.” Hollyoaks star and LOROS Ambassador Charlie Clapham will be Prince Charming on the night, which has a fairy-tale princess theme.
