8 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
ACTIVE ARTS
At the end of January, we hosted a well attended and very enjoyable concert when the Helix Ensemble entertained us in St Andrew’s church . Many of the musicians are from the north of the county and beyond so it was pleasing that the weather was kind for their journey home. Comedy duo twins Victor and Albert kept us all on our toes for an evening in the village hall which included them playing alternate bars of a Bach Fugue on electronic organ and then singing a song in pidgin French. Events as this is going to be published are very varied, as we aim to be, so you will have been to, or missed, our Annual Art Exhibition, a rousing Big Band Concert and a mini Craft Market.
There are always projects going on through Active Arts that are rather less public, examples being local schools working on World War One themes, thanks to funding we obtained through the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We also have frequent Craft Workshops, and craft sessions for children at District Council Days like Easter Eggstravaganza. We were able to bring Leysland School Art Club together with St Andrew’s church to create banners representing the Easter story.
A group of us will soon be going to see previews of some of the concerts and shows we might be able to book through an organisation called ‘CentreStage’ which has contacts with hundreds of national performers, and then the programme for next winter will be taking shape.
APRIL 2016
The three winners of the popular vote were by Barbara Peacock, Linda Sharman and Sue Sturgess.
It is very rare for us to have an absolutely full hall for an Active Arts performance so we would always welcome more folk in our audiences — do look out for our programmes and posters or check online at www.activearts.org.uk.
