LPT TEAM REACH
GREAT HEIGHTS
On Saturday 14 May, an intrepid 45-strong team from Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) took on the challenge of climbing ten peaks in the Lake District in a single day to raise money for the Trust’s charity.
Fantastic weather allowed for some breath-taking views, but the gruelling trek certainly tested the team’s physical strength and endurance to the limit. 14 of the 45 team members were successful in completing all ten peaks, coming off the final mountain as the sun went down after an exhausting 15 hours 22 minutes and 26 miles of walking.
The team was delighted to have exceeded its ambitious fundraising target of £5,000, and donations are still coming in. The money raised will go towards buying extra equipment and funding innovative projects to improve care across the Trust’s community and mental health services. Reminiscence art and music sessions for dementia patients, pantomime trips for life-limited children cared for by LPT’s children’s service and sporting equipment for patients on our mental health wards are just some of the ways donations to the charity have been used to date.
The team was led by chief executive, Dr Peter Miller, and director of finance, business and estates, Dr Pete Cross. Dr Miller said: “I am so proud of everyone who took part this weekend. There was a fantastic sense of camaraderie and real team spirit, even when the going got tough. To have achieved our fundraising target makes it all worthwhile.”
Starting at Buttermere, the ten peaks route covered Red Pike, High Stile, High Crag, Green Gable, Great Gable, Scafell Pike (England’s highest peak), Broad Crag, Great End, Allen Crags and Glaramara, and required some 8,000 feet of ascent.
