human ‘partner’ and May can help Kate with anything from opening doors to taking her shoes off and putting her slippers on her feet. It is truly amazing to watch these dogs work but taking over the practicalities of life is not their only talent. They give back to their human partners’ confidence, independence and the ability to live a much more fulfilling life. No-one could ask for more.
We meet at 7.30pm every second Monday of the month in the Village Hall, visitors are always welcome.
A TRUE PARTNERSHIP
In April, Countesthorpe W.I. welcomed a very special ‘speaker’. Her name is May, she is around 3 years old and she is a very highly trained Canine Partner dog. She is partnered with Kate who has to use a wheelchair and, as Kate says, she is the difference between existing and living. Canine Partners is a charity that started in 1990 and this year they hope to have trained and placed 84 dogs although the number needed is many times greater. Each dog is carefully chosen for their
