SCROOGE CHRISTMAS SUPPORT FOR SHOPS
Blaby District Council put out a press release celebrating their decision to offer free parking in Blaby during the run-up to Christmas FOR JUST TWO DAYS!! They clearly recognise the importance of free parking to encourage shoppers to shop local rather than diving past to Fosse park, who offer free parking all of the time.

FEBRUARY 2023
Holder for Housing, Net Zero, Community and Environmental Services at BDC said: “We have many unique, independent outlets which can offer shoppers something that little bit extra special this Christmas so take advantage of the free car parking offer and shop local to support local businesses and local people.”
The Christmas lights in Blaby looked so inviting (Still up on 14th January?) but if there is a 70p sting in the tale, no amount of Christmas illumination will change shoppers habits.
UNIVERSITY
OF THE THIRD AGE
Many of our New Year Resolutions will at least have a passing reference to doing more exercise and perhaps those eligible for U3A membership should consider the Special Interest Groups that are essential parts of that organisation and could be a good help in encouraging us to do more! I am actually thinking specifically of Country Dancing – our group meets twice a month for a wide variety of country dances aimed to exercise whoever appears in the village hall at starting time.
In fact I would advise looking carefully if you have the facility at www. countesthopeu3a.co.uk for details of activities or you could attend the monthly general meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, from 1.30pm in the Village Hall, with an outside speaker talking at 2pm. There you would meet members, find out details of all the activities and join at a very reasonable rate to attend any of the 30 or so groups. Each individual group has its own pattern of meetings and level of commitment needed and friendships grow as we all know from shared interests and activities so there is really very little to lose – except a few extra pounds if you get involved in one of those activity sessions!
