THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD 15
 GIRL GUIDES AND
RANGERS ENJOY THE
SUMMER TERM
1st Countesthorpe Rangers and 2nd Countesthorpe Guides have enjoyed the summer term, making the most of the light evenings by being outside.
Our newly formed Rangers group for 14- 18 year olds opened this term and have taken part in a village trail, fire lighting and cooking on an open fire.
Our Guides (10-14 year olds) who meet twice a month have played games and eaten pizza in the park, cooked in tin cans and made smores over fires and have had a visit from the RNLI.
We gave out a record number of badges with 7 Guides achieving their Bronze award and 4 obtaining Silver – A huge ‘Well Done’ to all of our Guides who received badges, some of whom may go on to work towards their Gold Awards over the next term or two.
Both groups joined together for our last meeting of the term at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre in a Stand-Up Paddle Boarding session. We were really proud of our girls who all listened to the instructors and gave their all to the activity. There were more than a few splashes as many girls fell off of their boards, but in true Girlguiding spirit got straight back on to carry on. We did some pilates on the boards as well as some
games including ‘head to head’ charges for the braver ones. The girls loved jumping into the river at the end together and had a great time.
If you know any girls who might be interested in joining a local Girlguiding unit, please register an interest at https:// www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for- parents/register-a-child/
Countesthorpe Rangers and Guides would also be interested to hear from any adults who may wish to support our unit by
volunteering their time. We are extremely flexible as to what you may wish to do and how much time you might like to dedicate; any help is gratefully received. So if it is writing our herald articles approximately 4 times a year, helping to organise sessions, fundraising, or helping to plan trips and camps each term, please let us know via the website at https://www.girlguiding.org. uk/get-involved/become-a- volunteer/
