Methodist Church Notes from Angie Skerritt
The Methodist Church is made up of groups called Circuits. We are part of the Trinity Circuit consisting of 18 chapels which are divided into smaller groups with a minister overseeing each one. It is slightly different for us this year as our Deacon Sharon will be overseeing our 5 chapels comprising Countesthorpe, Blaby, Cosby, South Wigston and Wigston Magna.
SUMMER
Over the summer holiday period life at the chapel was fairly quiet. Some of our services were shared with Cosby and Blaby Methodist chapels. Our Saturday Morning Coffee Shop, Bible Study Group meetings and some mid-week Communion Services continued as usual.
HARVEST
Our Harvest Festival was on 15th September; we celebrated the Harvest with ‘All good Gifts Around Us’ for the Food Bank. The service was led by Mrs Jo Kay.
TUESDAY FELLOWSHIP
After a short summer break our Tuesday Afternoon Fellowship Group began meeting again on 3rd September for a ‘back together’ afternoon followed by a games afternoon on the 17th September. Speakers and activities are now being arranged for the remainder of the year.
OCTOBER 2024
ANNIVERSARY
SKITTLES
The Skittles evening in August went well giving some the opportunity to show their mis-spent youth! Depending on where you were sitting in the skittle alley it was a bit risky at times! The supper was as delicious as always. We had a great evening with thanks to Julie and Andrew for organising it for us.
OOOOOOO
An old proverb. “You can’t keep trouble from coming, but you needn’t give it a chair to sit on!”
OOOOOOO
Congratulations to the Rainbow Shop on 40 years of raising funds for Christian Aid!!
THE CIRCUIT
As with birthdays, as we get older our Chapel Anniversary seems to come round more quickly. This year we will be celebrating the occasion on 6th October.
CAFÉ CHURCH
We are hoping to have another Café Church in October, a relaxed and informal service with tea, coffee and cakes or biscuits but a date hasn’t yet been set. This service and information on our other services are advertised on the notice board outside the Chapel.
GARDEN PARTY
I was hoping to report that we had a warm and sunny day for our annual Garden Party but it was not to be! The day dawned rather wet and damp and it was touch and go whether to postpone or not. In the end we went ahead as planned. Although it remained overcast the day was quite warm and we had a good, dry afternoon. Our visitors were able to browse the stalls of gifts, jigsaws and home-made cakes or just sit and relax and talk to friends.
