As a church we will be prayerfully looking to appoint a new pastor. We trust that we will be able to announce who that will be in a future edition of the Herald! Joe Bailey
OOOOOOO
Countesthorpe Baptist Church has a long, 200-year history. Another period of that history has concluded as Pastor Aubrey Vaughan steps down at the end of 2024. Over the last 20 years, the church has known many ups and downs, but there has been one constant. Aubrey has faithfully opened up the Bible each Sunday, preaching its life-changing message. As a church, we are immensely grateful to God for His faithfulness in giving us Aubrey for this time.
In Jeremiah 3:15, the Lord promises:
“I will give you shepherds according to My heart,
who will feed you
with knowledge and understanding.”
Aubrey has been such a shepherd, spending many hours studying the word of God, so he can publicly proclaim it and apply it to our lives, feeding our souls with bread from heaven. Just as a good doctor doesn’t hide from giving a difficult diagnosis, Aubrey has also not flinched from preaching hard truths to us, even
when they may be unpopular.
Aubrey has also sought to reach out to the village with the message of the good news of the Lord Jesus. You might have met him as he has visited door to door, offering pastoral help and prayer.
Or perhaps you remember coming along to ‘Youth Mix’ in the 2000s or taking part in the table tennis club, Easter egg hunts or themed suppers at the chapel. What has driven Aubrey to reach out? The answer is that he cares for people.
In the verse from Jeremiah above, the Lord promises to send shepherds after His own heart. God’s heart is that we would return to Him and find mercy, grace, and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. He extends that invitation to each of us through His servants like Aubrey.
During his time at Countesthorpe, Aubrey himself has grown as a pastor. His roots have grown deeper in the historic beliefs of Bible-believing Christians of the past. As a consequence, the church has returned to its origins as a ‘Particular Baptist Church’. All that means is that we believe that God is in control of all things, and the work of rescuing us from our sins is entirely of His grace and kindness.
As Aubrey has taught these truths in our church, it has grown from a small handful of people to a regular congregation of around 30-40 people. Around half of those present each Sunday are children. We are also very grateful for Aubrey’s wife Danielle, who has been involved in so many ministries in the church and much labour behind the scenes, often
