14 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
Countesthorpe already bursting at the seams.
The Local Flood Authority also has no objection. They can say that an area that has already flooded is low risk, but they can’t foretell the horror that awaits homeowners as yet more housing leaves an impermeable footprint on the landscape. Last week we experienced the second one-in-100-year flooding event within 9 months, bringing many local routes to a standstill. And again this week, more misery created by flooding. We are not experiencing an exceptionally wet winter, autumn has only just begun! Should the need for more housing outweigh the safety and peace-of-mind of existing residents?
Condemning residents to further carnage, your Future Site Connectivity comments suggest that you are actually supporting increasing this horror by filling in the gaps and expanding even further into the countryside! Which, then, moves that precious countryside even further away from current residents.
The Parish Council notes that plans will now include a service road, giving access to future development and that proposed allotment space will be relocated within the site. We are disappointed this significant change was agreed without consultee or public consultation.
The developer will no doubt say that people need houses, some will be affordable and in a pleasant space. True. Must they be in Countesthorpe where the infrastructure is already at breaking point? Surely there must be better places to put all these houses for which you’ve failed to provide a plan.
Chairman, please direct the Committee to use common sense and refuse this application.”
BLABY DISTRICT WERE AT
SIXES AND SEVENS
The following comments were posted on the FaceBook page Countesthorpe against building more houses.
I was there this evening, quite agree with everything you said. BDC WERE AT SIXES AND SEVENS even though the info was at hand!!!
Another post read; Thanks to Richard Holdridge, Sue Kinvig, Gill Postlethwaite and Mike Gamble for speaking at the meeting.
I suppose a deferral is a reasonable result, for now. But BDC we’re all over the place with not having all the correct documents to hand, despite Mick & his wife reminding them, numerous times, they were in the planning document. BDC, worryingly, made assumptions that

certain things would be done (yeah, yeah), but couldn’t definitely confirm it had. Ffs. It should been rejected.
Yet another said; Yes Parish Council did us proud & the locals who spoke too. When it came to the councillors [on planning committee] own area (several including the chair live in Glenfield) they whittled on for an hour then declined. A bit of Nimbyism!!’
Personally the councillors voting should have had 2 choices. For or against.
We’ll be ready for them next time. Cheers to all who attended.
Another contributor wrote; Thank you to those that spoke up today. Hearing about the apparent ineptitude of this council who approved the Foston Road ‘development’ is galling to say the least. Surveyors were out today marking, along Foston Road and Leicester Road, where all the utilities are.
PROBLEMS WITH TRAFFIC AUDITS
Checking documents for the planning application to add a further 41 dwellings off of Gillam Butts, regarding traffic flow on Station Road and Hallcroft Avenue. The consultants engaged by the developers did a vehicle check between for 30 minutes from 12.15pm, surprisingly (not), they reported no build up of traffic and a small amount of footfall.
Local residents did the same area but from 3pm to 3.45 and reported 1827 vehicles Station Road and 112 through Hallcroft Avenue.
The residents sent their findings along with photographs to Blaby District but they are not recorded in the documentation - Why is it being ignored!
One comment on FaceBook said “Notice how they chose midday? Because they know traffic will be calm. They should do their surveys 3 or 4 times a day and then take the average, but of course they don’t!! Busy times are school run times and of course commuting at the end of the day. Absolute joke these surveys. Another commented “There is no legal requirement as to when a developer does their traffic survey. they could do it at three o’clock in the morning if they wanted and still claim it was a valid result.”
