OCTOBER 2015
CHARITY MARKS
40th ANNIVERSARY
Woodside Animal Centre celebrated its 40th with the biggest ever Gala Day, raising a record £7,000 to help care for abandoned and mistreated animals.
The Leicestershire RSPCA centre on Scudamore Road was transformed for the day, aptly named Pet Fest, with dog shows, bouncy castles, carnival stalls and a barbecue attracting more than 1,500 people through its gates.
Animal advice was on offer alongside nutrition stands, craft stalls and a have-a- go agility course for dogs.
Barrie Stephen, the official ambassador of the charity, provided a pop-up hair salon where visitors had their hair styled by his award-winning team for a donation. Woodside Animal Centre’s Fundraising and Event Coordinator, Jade Gibson, said: “Not only did everyone have a great time, but we also raised a lot of money, much more than we have managed with previous events. It is a great achievement for Woodside to celebrate 40 years, we are thrilled that so many people celebrated with us.”
Sponsors at the event along with Barrie Stephen, included the Living Well gym who provided the equipment for a 200k Pet fest Peddleathon, Bakers Waste who supplied an inflatable skip and Hawgrips Nursery who donated thousands of beautiful plants.
Jade added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to the businesses of Leicester who helped us to ensure that the event was a great success and helped us to raise vital funds to care for the thousands of sick and mistreated animals every year.”
The charity runs entirely on public donations so events like these are crucial. Woodside Animal Centre has become one of the top animal rehoming centres in the country. In the last ten years, the centre has found loving new homes for over 36,000 animals.
