LOCAL CHAP WINS
BRITISH PIKE FINAL
Chris Wade of Rosebank Road (Countesthorpe Windows) battled against high winds, rain and 330 other anglers to win the 2015 British Pike Championship which took place on 14 miles of Cambridgeshire waters. Chris who qualified for the final in February fished small roach dead baits to land 6 pike the biggest weighing 17lbs for a total of 44lbs, which was a new record for the event. After 24 years of fishing this match it was nice to bring the trophy back to Countesthorpe.
SCHOOL & COLLEGE
ARE TO MERGE
Leysland High School and Countesthorpe Community College have been given approval by the Education Funding Agency (EFA) to merge and create one school for students aged 11-19 from September 2016. The new school will be called “Countesthorpe Leysland Community College”.
Principal Designate, Mr Jonathan Sleath said “I am honoured to have
been appointed. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated and committed staff and students as well as governors, local employers and partners in the community. Together we will lead the college forward in this new exciting era. There is a strong sense of pride in the two existing schools and we have an excellent foundation upon which to build towards even greater success.”
The two schools share the same site and the merger will ensure a greater continuity and progress for all students. Parents have been consulted during the last year and

the overwhelming majority are in favour of the merger.
The new school will have the capacity for over 1600 students with over 350 students in a successful high quality sixth form. Richard Wall Chair of the Executive Governors stated “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together two successful schools and create a more consistent learning experience for all pupils. Our vision for the new school is “To inspire and enable all to be the best they can be”
