EQUINE SUPPORT
Local horse riders showed their support for Leicester City Football club when they were invited by Leicester Dressage Group, to compete in LCFC football shirts and anything blue and white, rather than the normal formal black jackets. Many Riders took full advantage on Sunday 8th May, one of the sunniest & warmest days so far, sporting colourful blue and white attire. Pictured on her horse Zeus, a 12 year old Chestnut Lusitano is Linda Hudson (a former Blaby Courier Rider) who as well as wearing a football shirt, plaited blue and white ribbon into Zeus’s mane and draped LCFC scarf behind his saddle. Zeus didn’t seem to mind the scarf flapping about behind the saddle as they cantered around the arena; this is the first time the pair have won a dressage competition and so the Blue Army’s regalia seems to be lucky and continues to bring a touch of magic. Blaby Recreational Riding Association (BRRA), who run Leicester Dressage, are hoping to display more photographs on their website www.brra.org when received from competitors who took part on the day.
REFURBISHMENT COMPLETE
Countesthorpe Cricket Club has re- opened its Club House following a substantial refurbishment project that was part funded by monies received from SITA Trust.
The project consisted of a total refurbishment of the main room in the Club House. The work included removing existing and dated fixtures, plastering
all walls and the ceiling, reinstallation of the lighting, installing a new ceiling, installing a new sound system, total redecoration, reinstalling the bar and installation of a new carpet.
The project has taken just over three months to complete. The work has been undertaken by both sub-contractors and members of the Club.
James Popplewell, who is the Chairman of Countesthorpe Cricket Club said “The refurbishment has given the Club House a completely new lease of life. It looks fantastic and our objective is to enable the Club House to be used even more by our members, invited guests and the local community.”
He continued by saying that “We will be celebrating the completion of the project by hosting a formal opening evening. We have arranged for our local MP, Alberto Costa, to attend and open the Club House for everyone to enjoy. We could not have done this without the funding from SITA Trust and the help of our Club members, who have worked exceptionally hard. I wanted to thank three Club members in particular, namely, Terry Swingler, Pete Clarke and Graham Popplewell, who have spent hours of their time working on the project.”
LEICESTER ROAD
SPORTS GROUND
FUTURE SECURED
Blaby District Council has now taken ownership of the area of land known as the Meadows Sports Ground, Leicester Road. The lease with the tenants, the Meadows Sports Association, was not terminated by Oadby & Wigston BC and as such the current lease has passed to Blaby District Council. We are currently in the process of amending the lease slightly to allow for a change in parties and to ensure the lease is affordable.
The lease was such that it did not allow the Association to apply for external grant funding. Blaby is therefore very mindful that this needs to be attended to in order to give the association the best chance of applying for funding.
I understand that members of the Parish and the Sports Association have met and once the lease arrangements are concluded, which I expect to be very soon, I will make arrangements to facilitate a meeting with both parties to discuss future ownership of the sports ground.
