FEBRUARY 2023
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG
WITH EXPRESSING
YOURSELF!
With singing, dancing and more amoosing cow jokes than you could possibly count, Countesthorpe Scout’s 6th Annual Panto was a great hit once again this Christmas! Our talented cast of 40 young people performed a 2 hour show at Sue Townsend Theatre, for full theatres in 2 shows on Saturday 17th December.
Our usual twist on the original story saw us comparing 12th century Nottingham to the modern day, as Zelda (Izzie Fasulo) decided in the opening scene that it all seemed a bit boring – so got straight out of her seat and walked onto the stage to see what was going on! She arrived just in time to watch King Richard (Eve Jelves) and his men leave to fight in the Crusade, leaving the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Violet Macedo-Hatch) and Prince John (Matthew Douglas) in charge.
To Zelda’s surprise, the first people she met were really quite mean – with Maid Marion (Chloe Faulkner) and best friend Jane (Sophie Simkin), entirely unimpressed with Zelda’s 21st century clothes, name and opinions. After a strong reminder that as magnificent as Nottingham may be, they haven’t won anything for AGES (unlike Leicester...!); Zelda headed off into Sherwood Forest to see who else she could find.
On the way she met Poggy (Luke Jelves), who soon decided they were both destined to do something incredible (well mostly he was...) and bring down the Sheriff! Zelda offered to ring, email or even FaceTime King Richard, but to her total confusion, Poggy explained the only way

to reach him in 12th century England, was to send a messenger 3000 miles on a horse! So our heroes set out to save Nottingham themselves.
At the end of market day (featuring a pretty stubborn Pantomime cow!), the Sheriff appeared and lead Henchman George (Josh Riley) announced that taxes would raise even higher. To Jane’s horror, the Sheriff went on to ban all dancing in Nottingham! With Dame Florence (Max Dexter) and her son Norman (Ben Pilling) wondering what to do next, Robin Hood (Ben Carter) revealed himself from his latest disguise to reassure everyone not to worry – he had heard everything and had a plan.
Robin set off around Sherwood Forest, robbing a Rich Fellow (Daniel Cosby) of
his gold coins, before coming across Little John (Evan Griffiths-Brown). After a rather comical exchange on the morals of Robin’s activities, (while on a seesaw...), they were joined by Friar Tuck, Martha and Will Scarlett (Isaac Lawrence, Violet Topley and Matilda Carter). Luckily, they all agreed to join Robin’s new gang to help beat the Sheriff. Announcing themselves in an explosive rendition of ‘We’re Merry Men’ (To the tune of Raining Men), everyone was very excited to hear the news!
Marion though, could not understand how Martha could be part of the Merry Men, because she’s a GIRL! This sparked huge discussion among our stars, with Zelda trying to teach everyone to change their old-fashioned ways; ‘why do clothes, names or anything like that matter – why can’t everyone be who they want to be!’ Marion and Jane still weren’t convinced, even after a lively rendition of ‘Expressing Yourself’ from Martha and Dame Florence – though with Zelda’s
