Notes from Angie Skerritt
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas in spite of the miserable weather! Our Christmas Tree Festival and services were graced with the presence of Santa Claus! It had been intended that he spent Christmas sitting on a bench in the little green area at the top of Central Street but sadly he was vandalised within hours of arriving. After some TLC it was decided that he could spend the holiday safely in our chapel.
and Christmas Crackers. This year it was on 29th January.
Our Bible Study Group still meets once a month in a member’s home. The meetings are informal with tea and biscuits. The Tuesday Afternoon Group’s fortnightly meeting started again in the middle of January.
We will soon be meeting to arrange events for the coming months, giving us lots of opportunity for getting together. You are very welcome to join with us in any or all of these events. We look forward to seeing you - please check the village notice boards for information.
Easter Sunday this year is on 9th April. It is a moveable feast and falls on a Sunday between 22nd March and 25th April. In simple terms Easter is the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. If the full Moon falls on a Sunday then Easter is the next Sunday.
Our Sunday morning services begin at 10am; you are very welcome to join us.
We always save our final Christmas event until the New Year - our Sunday Christmas Lunch with all the trimmings
New Year’s Day seems a long while ago now but have you ever wondered about the beginning and ending of each day? The official starting and ending point of each day is the International Date Line, which was introduced at a conference in 1884 to bring order to travel and communication throughout the world. The earth is divided into many ‘time zones’.
The Date Line roughly follows the 180th meridian north to south through the middle of the Pacific Ocean and is halfway around the world from the prime meridian, which crosses Greenwich. This means that the celebration of a special day like Easter Sunday lasts more than just our 24 hours in the UK. The special days are celebrated over and over again through the time zones and is like a Mexican Wave all around the world!!
