The Leicestershire County Council Highway Fund was a pot of money that was allocated to each Leicestershire County Councillor for use on highways projects across the parishes in their area. It was
at the discretion of the County Councilor on how the funds were distributed. LCC Councillor Les Phillimore’s approach was to share his allocation of funding across the parishes in his area and consulted with those relevant Parish Councils. As this amounted to around a sum of £7000 for Countesthorpe, it was felt that to purchase these Mobile Speed Vehicle Activation Signs was the most beneficial use of the funding available. These signs provide a long term benefit to residents, promoting road safety to the village and the project has been able to be carried out at no cost to the Parish Council, which would otherwise have been costly to carry out.

SCOUT GROUP ELM TREE
We are sad to report that the Elm Tree planted by the Countesthorpe Scout Group at the Centenary Paddock in March was vandalized and unfortunately didn’t survive. The Parish Council donated the tree as part of the group’s initiative to remember the period of Covid pandemic and the impact it had on young people

in the village and the period of time in their life that was lost. The Scout Group chose the Elm Tree as a symbol of new growth and new beginnings and as the tree remains small it would not impact adversely on the surrounding area. The Parish Council will continue to support this and has purchased a replacement Elm tree which it will nurture until an appropriate time for the Scout Group to plant. We hope the replacement tree will be respected and protected by the local community.
