HINCKLEY & DISTRICT
PARKINSON’S GROUP
We have been amazed at the varied ways of raising funds that have come from members of the group, supporters and readers of these articles. You will recall that it is the 34th birthday of the group and it was suggested that we try to raise funds with a ’34 theme’ so that those taking part in the many activities available to members can do so without payment, making all activities freely available to everyone.
OCTOBER 2023
So much has been happening! Marlene and Mel Suart organised an Afternoon Tea at the Liberteas Coffee Shop at Newbold Verdon and raised over £1000. The proprietors of the coffee shop kindly waived their costs to support the charity. Elsewhere Sheila Finney and Jan Wye walked 34 times around the car park of the Mary Forryan Centre at Hinckley, dressed as witches. That proved quite a challenge for them but they completed it! Meanwhile Linda and Lawrence held a table top sale in their village:
High Quality, Gentle Dental Care
Meanwhile our regular activities have continued. This included an ‘Evening of Entertainment’ at Sheepy Magna Church in August when the ‘Singing for Fun’ group joined Local Vocals, the Tamworth Ladies Choir and Tuxedo Junction in an evening which raised over £1000 shared between the Parkinson’s Group and the Phoenix Group, supporting people with Dementia and their Carers.
The Group meets on the second Sunday of the month at 2.30 on October 8th and November 12th at the Mary Forryan Centre, Hinckley; our ‘Let’s Get Active’ weekly exercises at 3.00 at the St. Francis Centre; ‘Movement to Music’ and ‘Singing for Fun’ at Elmesthorpe Village Hall on Friday afternoons; our monthly informal ‘Drop Ins’ at Dobbies at Stapleton on the third Monday, October 16th and November 20th from 2.00 in the Restaurant Conservatory; and our Nordic Walking on the third Thursday of the month at 11.00 from Acorns Café at Burbage Common.
