AUGUST 2024
NEWS AND VIEWS FROM THE CHURCHES
WELCOME TO CAMERON AND HARRIET
Cameron was ordained Deacon at Leicester Cathedral on Sunday 30 June. He will be working with our Rector, the Revd Richard Reakes, as Assistant Curate in Training, in the Benefice of Countesthorpe, Foston, Peatling Magna and Willooughby Waterleys. He and Harriet will be living at Whetstone Vicarage. We held a special welcome lunch on 7 July.
This is what Cameron has written.
‘Hi all, it’s great to have a few words to
introduce ourselves. I grew up in the local area, going along with my family to St Peters Church, Whetstone, and finding my own faith in the course of being confirmed at the age of 11. After attending local schools, for the last eight years I have worked at Holy Trinity Leicester, first as a youth and children’s minister and then in training for Ordination.
I met Harriet there in late 2018, and by 2020 we were an item, marrying in June 2023. Harriet grew up in west London and then the north Cotswolds and was also taken along to church by her family. She was baptised at her own request aged 9, before a transformational gap year in student work at Holy Trinity Cheltenham when she was 18, setting her up for a life of faith in the fashion industry, which she has always been very passionate about. She works out her calling in this industry in an assistant buying role in formal menswear at Next head office. If you want a visit to the Next staff shop, you know who to ask!
I first felt the call to ordained ministry at the age of seventeen, feeling God calling me to a life of serving him with my work, and to give up my own ambitions of becoming a lawyer. Alongside Harriet, we now want to bring new life to the Church of England, calling our own generation back to the love of God. We’re looking forward to learning lots from the people of Countesthorpe and finding a new community here.
You may also catch us out running, playing Netball, Rugby or Cricket, or chatting about whatever book we’re reading. We’re looking forward to getting to know you all!’
