SAD NEWS
Countesthorpe
Methodist Church Notes from Angie Skerritt
It’s with sadness that I have to report that our minister, Frances, passed away on the 5th June after a serious illness. Frances was the minister for Countesthorpe, Blaby, Cosby, South Wigston and Wigston Magna. She was enthusiastic to spread the words of Jesus through the congregations of the 5 chapels. Although she wasn’t with us for long she will be sadly missed. A Service of Thanksgiving was held at Market Harborough Methodist Church in July. Her husband David and family are remembered in our prayers.
SWEETS ...
The speaker at the Tuesday Fellowship on 18th July was Mr Martin Stevenson, from Cosby. His theme for the afternoon was ‘Do You Remember?’ Martin brought a selection of old fashioned sweets from his daughter’s shop in Hinckley. These included Everton Mints, Sherbet Lemons, Chocolate Éclairs, Coconut mushrooms, etc. The group remembered some of their childhood favourites - Sherbet Dabs, Liquorice Ropes, Gob Stoppers, Rhubarb and Custard and Aniseed Balls. Many happy memories and stories were recalled. An entertaining afternoon ended with Tea and Cake.
From time to time the group enjoys a games afternoon - various card games and dominoes, etc, or a quiz. Occasionally, throwing caution to the wind, they have been known to indulge in a competitive game of Boules!!
CAFÉ CHURCH
Before Jesus returned to Heaven he promised his followers the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowered them to preach Christianity throughout the World in many different languages.
SHARED WORSHIP
Over the summer months we will be sharing some Sunday services with Blaby and Cosby. It’s good to meet from time to time with our friends in the neighbouring villages.
LUNCHES
Our annual Saturday Lasagne Lunch was on 15th June. This was followed with our popular Sunday Roast Beef Lunch on 7th July; a four course lunch with non- alcoholic wine, teas and coffees and, of course, a chocolate.
(Acts chapter 2). The theme for our Café Church in May was the coming of the Holy Spirit. We were able to explore the meaning of Pentecost together in the informal setting of sitting at tables with coffee and biscuits.
