Active Arts were very pleased and grateful that so many people responded to the requests to make white poppies for an arch of peace to be at the Commemoration of D Day evening in the Paddock in June. We looked around and bought what had seemed to be a basic garden arch and we were quickly offered some netting to cover it which immediately seemed right as a background to the poppies which were by then coming in in a variety of designs and sizes . Sessions were organised to attach these flowers to the arch and just in time they were all mounted and the arch was set up in place in the Paddock, where somehow there was room for a few more poppies to be attached by those who had brought their handiwork with them to the event.
After the evening’s music and readings the arch was repositioned outside the Village Hall and has been enjoyed by folk

passing there so redoubling the value of the crochet and knitting thank you all! Another big thank you is due to all those who have contributed to the Art Bomb on the railings of Greenfield School and it is
fitting that many of the paintings which we asked were titled with a name starting with M were by members of the school Art Club as well as folk from around the village many of whom joined us to mount them all on a sunny evening. I live near the school and take great delight walking slowly along the display and must admit watching folk enjoying the artistry is as much fun as looking at the squares on the railings themselves.
More traditional Active Arts events are on the calendar – do please continue to support us at our Willow Weaving Workshop, Greene Matthews’ concert in September and the Craft Market in October and further on in the Autumn and Winter a concert by local group LE8 Five and a Barn Dance /Ceilidh and the Art Exhibition in the Spring.
