10 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
9th OCTOBER
WEAR YELLOW
Calling all students, workers, mums, dads, granddads and grandmas, wear yellow for LOROS Hospice this October! Remember those bright yellow trousers you bought that time? Or the daffodil coloured hat you tend to only dust off for holidays? Well now is your chance to put all of those fantastically yellow-coloured items in your wardrobe to good use. LOROS is once again encouraging everyone and anyone in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to dig out their yellow clothes and accessories for this year’s annual Yellow Day.
The event, which is happening during national Hospice Care Week, is this year taking place on Friday, 9th October and sets to see thousands of people across the city and county raising awareness and funds for LOROS by wearing yellow. The money raised with go towards supporting terminally ill adults in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland,
like Flick Cracknell, who died at LOROS following her battle with breast cancer. Her daughter Fay said: “Mum was very positive about how much help LOROS could offer and I know she liked being there.“The care was so different to anything we’d experienced elsewhere.”
Flick went into LOROS just before Christmas four years ago, after living with breast cancer for more than a decade.
“I was able to stay overnight there and I didn’t even have to ask if it was OK, I could just stay,” added Fay.
“When someone is terminally ill you don’t want to be told when you’re allowed to see them.
“Being able to come and go as you please is such a simple thing but it makes such a big difference.”
Each year LOROS Hospice needs to raise £4.5 million.
Five people paying £1 on Yellow Day could pay for a patient, like Flick’s, meals for one day. If 25 people pay £1 on Yellow Day, that could cover the cost of care for patients like Flick for one hour. And 500 people paying £1 to wear yellow could help LOROS look after people like Flick for one day.
Fay added: “Mum’s death is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. We knew the end was coming but we knew she was being looked after.
“It was the best way it could have happened and I’m sure it’s exactly what mum would have wanted.”
Whether you are at school, college or at work, whatever you are doing on 9th October, make sure you are wearing yellow to support LOROS Hospice.
