4 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
FUN DAY
continued from page 1
which was organised by The Rotary Club of Blaby Meridian.
The many highlights of the day included the appearance of many unusual animals including Pythons,Foxes,Iguanas, Lizards and Meerkats which were exhibited by The Party Animals Company .....in actual fact it was a wonderful `mini zoo` at the Paddock in Countesthorpe. Both children and adults gained valuable knowledge regarding these amazing animals and were allowed to touch and hold many of them......which was a wonderful experience!
The festivities started at 12 noon with the fabulous music of The Enderby Youth Band and all the `fun of the fair` soon commenced.
One of the most popular events with the children was `Splat the Rat` with the Rotary member Martin Clarke ensuring that the kids had great fun splatting `the make believe` rat. A wonderful time was had by all which included the Rollerball and Table Skittles games, the Giant Slide,The `Wee` Red Bus, the amazing Sumo Wrestling which was actually meant for kids but perhaps to settle any differences several adult couples participated.
Many other games and stalls were available for entertainment, the coconut shy, bric a brac, football games and perhaps almost too many to mention in this article.
The most wonderful result of the day apart from Leicester City beating Aston Villa 3-2 was the fact that with the help of everyone The Rotary Club of Blaby Meridian raised £887.51 for Menphys and other nominated Rotary Charities ....a very BIG thank you to all who attended and also to the hard working volunteers of The Rotary Club of Blaby Meridian who made the day such a great success.

COUNTRY PARK
UPDATE
Good afternoon I wonder if your readers would like an update on the current situation regarding Countesthorpe Park ? Parishioners will be aware that Countesthorpe Country Park was due to be handed over to Countesthorpe Parish as part of a 106 Agreement following the adjacent housing development by Persimmons. Due to the dumping that had taken place by a Persimmons contractor, and concerns over ongoing maintenance, the Parish Council understandably felt that they were not in a position to take the park under their ownership at this time. This could have lead to the park area remaining under Persimmons ownership and a future housing development being submitted for the site. The Director of Place at Blaby District Council, Mark Alflat arranged a site meeting between the representatives of the parish council, district council and Persimmons to agree

a way forward. This culminated in Persimmons carrying out a range of works on the site which the Parish wish to see undertaken and the District Council agreeing to take the ongoing ownership and maintenance of the site on. A group will now be established to develop a vision for the Country Park for the future. I attended the meeting of the Parish Council on the 12th November to discuss the way forward.

RAINBOW SHOP
AIMING FOR £25,000
Many of you will have visited The Rainbow Shop next to St. Andrew’s Church on Main Street, and will have helped us to raise a great deal of money for Christian Aid over the 31 years we have been in business. I’m sure you will be interested to know that we have signed a Community Partnership with Christian Aid and their partners in Ethiopia to raise £5000 for a project to improve the health and well-being of women and girls and to increase their access to health information and services. If we are successful in raising this amount by 30th October 2017 the amount will be matched 5:1 by the European Union making the original £5000 worth £25,000. This is a wonderful target to aim for so please help us to get there and many, many thanks for all the support given over the years.
