FEBRUARY 2016
THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD 17
BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
As the Church of England Parish Church in our village, St Andrew’s has been serving this community for generations. You may well know us through christenings or weddings, funerals or thanksgivings or our Service of Light, our care for the lonely, housebound or sick; our schools work and holiday clubs for children; special activities for older people; the weekly drop-in for village youth; the Rainbow Shop; involvement in the Countesthorpe Food Bank and much more besides. This is all part of our life as a worshipping Christian Community who take our faith seriously and who along with other denominations take the call to be a real Christian presence in our village seriously too.
THE CHALLENGE!
We are a lively and growing congregation and all our premises are a buzzing hub, in use throughout the week - and sometimes we are bursting at the seams, as at MESSY CHURCH! We are definitely outgrowing our current buildings in terms of what we feel God is calling us to do. A couple of years ago God gave us the vision of extending our Main Street property (Rainbow Shop), linking the church with the Main Street site with proper path/ramp access and including a redeveloped garden.
WHAT THE EXTENSION WILL OFFER?
others are continually making their own donations towards the work and numerous fund-raising events have taken place or are being planned.
We are not making an appeal to readers for donations at this time but we do know that some people may wish to help us make our vision become a reality. You may see an appeal leaflet at a later stage.
Donations may be posted to our Treasurer: Mr Mike Darlow, 8 Gwendoline Drive, Countesthorpe LE8 5SE. Cheques should be made payable to: ‘PCC of Countesthorpe (Building Fund)’. The church is able to reclaim Gift Aid from HMRC, increasing the value of your donation by 25%. If you are a UK taxpayer and wish to use Gift Aid, you may download a form from our website (www.standrewscountesthorpe.co.uk) or collect one during Sunday worship services. All donations will be acknowledged, and will be treated confidentially.
We aim to create a welcoming place open and accessible to the whole community. The benefits will be an entrance foyer with a new church office, modern toilet
s Pfaceiloitieps, lextra room for activities, groups, meetings,

with purpose-built kitchen facilities for refreshments
and catering. Also the garden as a spiritual retreat space.
HOW THE WORK IS BEING FUNDED
1 6The cost of turning this vision into reality will be in the region of £175,000. The Diocese of Leicester is being asked to help us with a grant and we will be applying for grants from other bodies. Church members and
