WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Each year a different country is invited to write the theme
songs chosen to create the atmosphere of their island.
Cuba is a beautiful, green and fertile land, with a people who enjoy music, dance and colour despite a long history of colonisation and the embargo placed on them by America, which has recently been lifted. Economically it is a poor country, but Cubans are proud of a good education system, and the percentage of women working in Education and Medicine.

PIE, PEAS AND PIGEON RACING RAISES £600
At the end of January, and in celebration of the Vicar’s home county, 80 people enjoyed an evening celebrating all things Yorkshire! It began with the ‘Yorkshire National Anthem’ (aka ‘On Ilkley Moor bar t’at’). Then came the meal of pies with mushy peas, mint sauce and gravy followed by Yorkshire Parkin or apple pie. The proceedings were interspersed with amusing film clips of Yorkshire origin, and then the highlight of the evening - the pigeon racing - though I hasten to add that no live animals were involved! A thoroughly entertaining evening, which raised £600 for the Main Street building project.
ST ANDREW’S CHURCH NEW BUILDING PROJECT
I am delighted to report that the Diocese has agreed to give us a major grant towards the cost of our new building project. This is a wonderful affirmation of the direction that we feel God is calling us to as we use our buildings for the benefit of the whole community. Watch this space for more news on our fundraising activities!

The new glass doors were donated by Mr and Mrs Robert M Kilby in loving memory of parents Harold and Mavis Kilby and grandparents Ernest and Minnie Riddington
based on their lifestyle for the Worldwide Women’s Day of Prayer service. This year the service was devised by the women of Cuba and it echoed music, rhythm and colour. Not only is it worldwide but also
