300th CELEBRATION
A MONTH IN THE LIFE
OF OUR VILLAGE
The Herald will be producing the 300th edition at the beginning of December this year. We would like to mark this achievement of our community newspaper by reflecting everything that is going on in the village in the lead up to Christmas and the end of the year. We want everyone in the village to send us one sentence or ‘headline’ of their seasonal preparations or plans.
We would like a really full diary of every public happening, event, match, service family get-together etc. taking place in the village during December.
We would also like a short status update of your plans for the end of the year. For example
“must get the spare room cleared for the mother-in-laws visit” or
“check the passports are in date for a quick continental stock up”
The glory is in the incidental. The more quick clips representing people in the village the more glorious the result. Lets make the 300th issue a celebration of the ordinariness of the everyday or the quirkiness of people various. To make it really easy we have even generated a QR code you can scan with your phone, or just send a quick

net. A photo would be a much appreciated bonus.
Three hundred issues takes the paper back to the first foolscap copy produced in September 1971. It was an 8 page issue. The headline on the front page was ‘100% increase in show exhibits’. This was back in the day when we had a village produce show.

ACTIVE ARTS
A group of hard working people carved themselves a wooden spoon at the most recent craft course run by Active Arts at Glebe Gardens – and at the same time local artist Nicola Overton was displaying her lovely feltwork pictures near the Garden Centre entrance.
Having recently been passing on to ‘the locals’ as many new programmes as we can, we are hoping for lots of folk at our Family Arts Festival, which includes the Big Draw, on Saturday, October 3rd. This will be at Countesthorpe College from 10.30 until 2pm and will offer art and craft activities for all ages, in groups led by talented folk from near and far! Later in the month look out for details of “Spooktacular” at Fosse Meadows where we will again be leading the craft activities.

CRAFT MARKET
Many folk will be looking here to confirm the date of the Craft Market – this year it is on Saturday, November 7th and stalls are already booked with crafts people busy creating items ready for you to browse and buy on the day! Doors open at 10 and close at 4pm.
ANGER OVER 4 YEAR WAIT FOR PROMISED COUNTRY PARK
Residents are angry that developers have failed to provide them with a 16 acre country park some four years after it was promised.
Persimmon Homes said it would create the new open space in Countesthorpe as a condition of being given permission to build 110 homes off Borrowcup Lane. The development was approved by Blaby District Council in 2011 and the properties have been built but villagers, who were originally thrilled about the park plan, say it has been largely used as a dumping
