OPEN GARDENS
Under the auspices of the National Gardens Scheme, which raises millions of pounds for charity, three Countesthorpe gardens will be open to the public this year. On Sunday 5th and Sunday 19th of June between 11am. and 5pm. Roger Whitmore and Shirley Jackson at 4 Packman Green and Sue and Martin Hobson at 2 Elliots Yard, both of which were also open last year, will be joined by Mike and Jane Thompson at 29 Peatling Road.

SETTLEMENTS
Once again the residents of Countesthorpe are faced with the news that a planning application for a major housing development is shortly to be submitted. This time it is for 170 new houses on land adjacent to Leicester Road and Foston Road, opposite the Redrow estate which is still under construction.
The public exhibition displaying the outline draft plans for this development took place on 17th May at Countesthorpe Methodist Church, and the community was invited to comment on the proposals brought forward by Catesby Estates. Feedback was requested by 31st May. It will be used to “shape proposals where possible, and will be presented as part of a Statement of Community Involvement.” To what extent the views of local people affect decisions made by planning committees remains to be seen, but with

It may also be possible to visit at other times during May and June by arrangement. The combined admission charge will be just £5 (children free) and home-made teas will be available at one or more of the venues, all of which are within easy walking distance of each other.
As parking is problematical on Peatling Road it is advisable to leave cars around the village centre.
