Village Newspaper
DELIVERED TO
EVERY LETTER BOX
IN THE VILLAGE
The Herald is delivered to all of the households in the community once every two months. We hope you agree that it is a useful way of finding out what is happening locally. In order for this to happen we rely on a large group of volunteers who give their time to deliver each issue through the letter boxes around the village.
Recently, for various reasons some of those delivery volunteers have asked to be replaced. Many have been delivering since the Herald started in the 70s and are reluctantly stepping aside for medical reasons. The Herald would like to record our gratitude and thanks to those people who have helped deliver the village news for so long.
We are now asking for new volunteers to step forward to volunteer to deliver copies of the Herald every two months. The areas of the village that need to be covered are; Rosebank Road, Kirkfield Road, Hazelbank, The Hawthorns and most of the Redrow estate. If you could

spare an hour or so every two months to ensure that everyone in the village continues to receive the Herald (one of the few local community newspapers still delivered to households) please

GALA RAISES RECORD
BREAKING £3010
A massive thank you to the huge crowds who came out to support the Scout Gala on Saturday 6th July! Squirrels joined the popular parade, sponsored again by Paragon Sales Solutions, through the village for the first time. The rain held off (mostly!) and our 100 strong parade made it’s way through the village to the Centenary Paddock, with many of our Cubs and Scouts making up a Boomwhacker band once again – led by the fantastic Simon Stokes.
The Gala itself saw the return of our popular Pop a Prize stall, with over 700

balloons to pop in the hope of finding a lucky ticket for a prize. Our raffle was a huge hit, with amazing prizes to win such as Family Tickets to Burghley House, Great Central Railway, Belvoir Castle and lots more. Congratulations to the winners of our Baking Competition and Talent Show – as always we had some fantastic entries! New for this year was our sock challenge – ‘how many socks can you put on in 30 seconds’! This was hotly contested, with the winning adult managing an impressive 16 socks. Another new popular feature was our Candy Floss stall, which many seemed to enjoy!
All of our usual favourites returned, including our cake stall, samosas, BBQ, games, inflatables sponsored by MR Plumbing and Bathrooms and Steven Carman Advisor @ the Mortgage and Protection Advice Agency, books, plants and much more – something for everyone. We were thrilled by the amount raised, by far the most we have ever raised at any form of fundraising event. All of these funds will go back into supporting the activities for our 165 youth members and managing our building. An absolutely massive thank you to our fantastic volunteers who gave so much time to plan for the event, all of our set up, marshal, stall holders and pack up teams who made it all happen on the day and everyone who came along and gave so generously. We hope that you enjoyed the day. Our next Gala will be Saturday 5th July 2025 – hope to see you there!
