RECORD BREAKING GALA
STARTS WITH A BOOM!
The Annual Scout Gala (with it’s annual wet weather) took place on Saturday 8th July with a new feature to this year’s Parade! After the planned brass band had to pull out at late notice, Simon Stokes saved the day, kindly bringing along a load of BoomWhackers, to add some noise and excitement to our annual parade. Assisted by drummer Luke from Scouts, Simon coordinated some of our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts into a fun beat – making a brilliant spectacle which proved to be really popular with those watching us make our way through the village! Our parade of 90 youth members made it through the wet weather in time for the start of the Gala at 1pm – huge thanks go to Simon for saving the day and giving us a parade to remember. Thanks also to Paragon Sales Solutions, for sponsoring the Parade for us this year and helping to make it possible.
The Gala itself had fun for all the family, with inflatables, crafts, BBQ, new games to try and all of our old favourites as well. The rain did stop in the end and so many of you came along to join in the fun. Thankyou so much to everybody who came along to support and gave so generously – we raised an incredible £2249.42, all of which will go towards supporting more amazing activities and opportunities for our youth members, as well as maintaining our aging building. This is the most we have ever raised at a Summer Gala by far and we’re really grateful for everyone’s support in these difficult financial times. continued on page//
    NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN OFFICIALLY OPENED
June 24th was the date set for the official opening of the Community Garden set out behind the Bridge building and St Andrews Church. And it was fitting that the sun shone brightly on the day. A good gathering of local folk including a ‘prudence’ of previous St Andrew’s vicars (as we should call such a group according to our dictionary) gathered to hear Rev Mick Gillespie as chair of the parish council explain the work involved in creating a peaceful welcoming garden. He thanked those responsible for all the work involved already and with the upkeep still to come of course.
The garden was dedicated by the Rector of the four Saints Benefice Rev Richard Reakes. It was fitting that many chose to enjoy the delicious refreshments in the garden rather than inside the Bridge.
The Garden is to be always open – just go in through the entrance between the Bridge and the church grounds, choose a shady spot or a sunny seat and enjoy the peace, maybe even with refreshment from the Rainbow Shop when it is open.
I am surely not the only one to wish to thank all those who have been busy over
the years creating the garden.
